Becoming His Page 2
So that’s why she had been such a bitch. She was jealous.
Unfortunately I couldn’t blame her. Keith was everything any girl could ever want in a man, gorgeous, successful, and radiated a quiet confidence that said he knew he was the best in the room, and that he didn’t have to prove it.
Kelly’s jealousy was for naught though. As much as I longed to know Keith in a more intimate sense, there was no indication that those feelings were returned. He had never been anything more than professional with me.
Anyway, why would he want me, his completely average personal assistant ten years his junior when he could have his pick of any gorgeous model in the industry?
I plastered a smile to my face and turned back to Keith. “Of course, I’ll see you in a few.”
Before he or Kelly could say another word, I hurried out of the office and back to the relative safety of the executive floor.
When I made it back to the office, I slumped into a chair across from Veronica. She lifted her eyes up from her computer screen and sympathy crossed her face when she saw my forlorn expression.
“Oh honey.” She said softly. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know if I can do this.” I said, trying to hold back the tears that were welling in my eyes. The moment that the words left my mouth, I knew that they were true.
This was my dream job, but I didn’t know if I could handle the pressure. I didn’t know if I could continue to fight my hopeless attraction to my boss, and the hatred that being in a position so close to him got me.
“Look at me girl.” Veronica said firmly, and I dragged my chin up to meet her gaze. “You have every right to be here as much as that snobby bitch. You’re great at your job and,” a gleam sparkled in her eye, “the boss really, really likes you.”
“What?” My head snapped up at that last part. Surely Veronica didn’t imply what I think she just did.
“Oh come on. You have to have be blind not to notice the way that he’s been looking at your curves.” Veronica dismissed. “He likes you, in more ways than one.”
I could feel my face flush as heat grew in my cheeks. I had never noticed anything of the sort. Keith was kind to me, sure, but attracted to me?
But wait…
He had taken me to lunch, more times than one would normally go out with their PA.
All of the casual touches and brushing of hands, things that I had just brushed off as incidental contact all seemed less innocent under this lense.
Maybe Veronica was right. Maybe Keith was attracted to me.
I shook my head. This was all too much to process right now, my entire world had just been turned upside-down. “Um, thanks you. I have to go grab some paperwork.” I muttered awkwardly and made my escape to Keith’s office.
My mind was racing. Keith was attracted to me? I couldn’t believe it, and I probably wouldn’t have if it had come from anyone other than Veronica. She had been nothing but a friend since I had arrived at Uptown and she would have no reason to lie about something like this.
I stopped and took a deep breath.
Okay, I could finish having my crisis later. Right now I needed to get to work.
CHAPTER 4 - KEITH
“WHAT DO YOU think of Miranda’s latest line?” I asked, twirling the lo-mein around my fork as I gazed at Amy intently.
“Well…” She began hesitantly, looking to me as if she wasn’t sure that I actually wanted her to respond. “I like their choice in colors, they’re bold and draw the eye, but I feel like the designs themselves are almost an exact copy of their spring line.”
I couldn’t help the grin that quirked at the corners of my mouth. Amy may not have cut her teeth as a model or in the design industry like many others that worked at Uptown, but she had an eye for color and style that I had quickly found to be invaluable.
In the past, I had had other assistants that had been a major help with the paperwork and helping me wrangle my hectic day to day schedule, but when I talked to Amy, I felt more like I was talking to a peer than an assistant.
“That’s what I thought as well.” I couldn’t help but notice the way that Amy’s cheeks flushed at the approval and a shy smile spread across her face. It was adorable. I wanted to see that expression, and be the cause of her happiness, over and over.
She was like a sponge, soaking up praise and compliments left and right, as if she didn’t know just how good she was.
“I’ve already talked to Gerard about some ideas for there shoot, but what else do you think we can do to help differentiate their fall line from the spring version?”
I let myself relax back into my chair as I let Amy explain how she would set up the photoshoot, bringing up ideas that even the photographer and I hadn’t thought of.
The way that her eyes lit up when she talked, the way that she moved her hands to emphasize her points, the way that her curls bounced as she turned her head animatedly, it all captivated me. I could listen to Amy talk for hours and not get bored.
Whenever she expressed doubt in herself, I could feel anger rising within me. Who had put this wonderful, vibrant, woman down and made her not believe in herself? She was smart, picking up even the unspoken rules of the industry without a hitch. She was gorgeous, with bright eyes, high cheek bones, and curves that drew the eye of every man whenever she passed.
Selfishly, I wished they didn’t notice. Amy’s body was for my eyes only. I didn’t like the thought of other men looking at her, touching her, feeling her curves in a way that I could only fantasize about.
There was a lull in the conversation as I bit into an egg roll. “So, we’ve been working together for a month now, yet I feel like I barely know you.” It was true, Amy was quiet and never talked about her home life, from the moment she stepped through the door it was business, yet that wasn’t what I wanted, I wanted more. “Tell me more about yourself?”
Amy looked up at me shyly, as if she was surprised that I cared. I had to change that.
As I listened to her tell me about her family, her friends, I began to formulate a plan.
My subtle hits hadn’t been enough. She was attracted to me, I knew it, but she would never make the first move herself.
We could be good together, I knew it, but I was her boss, her job depended on me.
I wouldn’t ruin her career for as something as silly as rejection, but I wanted her to want me, not feel pressured because I was her boss. I wanted to make her mine, but I also had to do avoid scaring her off in the process.
CHAPTER 5 - AMY
EVER SINCE MY conversation with Veronica, I started to doubt every conversation and action that took place between Keith and I.
Was he just being nice every time he picked up lunch for the both of us, or did he have an ulterior motive?
I was newly single after being in a long term relationship. After years of purposefully avoiding the male gaze, I had no basis as to whether or not his actions were flirting.
Every instinct told me yes, to go for it, to make a move, but a little part at the back of my brain that sounded suspiciously like my ex told be that it was all too good to be true.
Even if Keith was attracted to me, what if he only wanted to sleep with me? From what I knew of the man, I didn’t think so, but I couldn’t be sure. Was the possibility of a one night stand worth risking my job over? I didn’t think so, but at the same time, even looking at Keith made moisture well between my legs.
I couldn’t ask, I couldn’t risk my job, but if Keith made a move well…
I wasn’t sure what I would do.
The day had been relatively quiet, no major fiascos to clean up after, but I was still excited to go home to a glass of wine and a good book. I stuck my head into Keith’s office, intending to tell him that I was heading home for the day, but he gestured for me to come to him.
My mouth immediately quirked downward into a frown. That couldn’t be good.
“Is everything okay?” I asked, as I went to stand across from Keith’s
desk.
“Everything is fine.” Keith said, and closed the binder that he had open on his desk, looking me right in the eyes.
My heart stopped as our gazes locked. I felt like I was ripped bare before him, like he was looking into my very soul. I couldn’t suppress the shiver that ran through me.
Keith stood up, walking over to where I sat and my heart started pounding rapidly in my chest. What was he doing? What was he going to say? He had said that everything was fine, but I still felt like I was in trouble for something, though what that something was I couldn’t say.
Had he figured out that I was into him? Was I going to get fired?
“I’m going to ask you one question. You can say no, I can transfer you to a different department but,” Keith’s voice was husky with something I couldn’t name, and it made a shiver run down my spine, “are you attracted to me?”
My blood grew cold.
No. No.
He had figured it out, I was going to get fired, shipped off, I would be out if the fashion industry, I’d have to get another job, I’d…
“Amy.” Keith said gently, and a soft hand cupped my chin, turning me to face him. “I know this is forward, but I’ve caught you staring.”
I looked at him in absolute shock. My skin felt like it was on fire where we touched, I could feel every inch of his cool skin, and I knew then that I wanted more, I wanted to feel those large hands all over my body.
Sure Veronica had said that Keith was into me, but deep down I hadn’t believed her.
Keith was into me? I couldn’t wrap my mind around it, even faced with the reality right in front of me.
“Me?” I croaked, barely able to get the words out of my mouth. “Why me?”
I had to be dreaming, this didn’t seem real.
CHAPTER 6 - KEITH
THE MORE I got to know Amy, the more I couldn’t see why she seemed so unsure of herself.
She was funny and quick as a whip. Not many people could handle the fast pace of the fashion industry, much less the crazy schedule that I had, but she had picked it up immediately and whatever I threw at her never missed a beat.
The more I talked to her, the more I spent time with her, the more I wanted to know about her.
I wanted to know her, mind and her body, but every advance I made seemed to go unnoticed.
She was attracted to me, I could tell from the angle of her body and the desire in her eyes, but she seemed to be holding herself back.
“Amy. Why is it so hard to believe that I want you?” I let my desire seep into every word.
“You’re, well, you. You’re so successful and older. I don’t know what you see in me.” Amy looked away, breaking eye contact.
I gently cupped her chin again and tilted her head so that our eyes met. “You’re smart and funny, not to mention absolutely gorgeous. You keep me on my toes and not to mention you put every model in here to shame.” I said, my voice husky with desire. She had to see, had to know just how much I wanted her.
Amy’s eyes were wide and I could see the underlying want in them. “Amy, I’m going to ask you a question, and I want you to answer honestly. If you say no, we can never speak of this again. Do you want me?”
There was a moment of hesitation and I held my breath. If Amy said no, I would keep my word and back off, but I desperately wanted nothing more than to show Amy just what she meant to me, just how important she was.
After a few agonizing seconds, Amy looked me in the eyes and squared her shoulders. “Yes.” She said, without a trace of unsureness in her tone.
“I’m going to kiss you now.” I said gently, before I leaned in and captured her lips with my own.
One of my hands rested on the small of her back and pulled her in close. Her amazing body pressed against mine was testing my self control. I could already feel blood rushing downwards and my ember beginning to strain against the confines of my perfectly tailored pants.
Amy moaned as my other hand strayed lower to cup her voluptuous ass, the sound going straight to my cock. There was nothing more that I wanted in that moment was to take her right there, against my desk, to hear her moan again and again in pleasure, but now was not the time.
Maybe at a later date I thought, eying my mahogany desk. I didn’t want my first time with Amy to be some quickie in my office though, she deserved better.
Reluctantly I pulled back, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her kiss-bitten and swollen lips. Just when I thought she couldn’t get any more perfect. We had barely done anything and Amy already looked throughly debauched.
She leaned forward, trying to chase my lips, but I reluctantly stopped her. “Let’s go back to my place.” I breathed, my voice coming out as sex-addled as she looked. “I don’t want our first time to be in my office.” I leaned in closer, letting a sly smile spread across my face. “I want to be able to hear you.”
Some other time it may be fun to take her across my desk and watch as she tried to keep quiet while I pleasured her with my mouth, but right now I wanted to hear every single one of the sweet moans that left her mouth.
A beautiful flush crept up her cheeks and I could see the moment it really sunk in just where we were. We were in my office, technically alone, but surrounded by a multitude of people. It was mostly soundproofed, but soundproofing only could go so far, and I hadn’t locked the door. Anyone could have come bursting in.
I wouldn’t have been ashamed. I would shout my love for Amy to the world, I didn’t care who knew about us, but I could tell that she wasn’t quite ready for that.
“You go ahead.” I said softly. “Meet me by my car, I’ll be there in a moment.”
Amy’s cheeks were a brilliant red as she straightened her dress and bustled out of the room. I couldn’t wait to see just how far down that blush went.
I adjusted myself in my pants so that my erection wouldn’t be as obvious and waited a few minutes longer before I left my office. That would give Amy some plausible deniability. One day I would take her to all of the dinners and balls that came with a position of my stature, but for now I would let her adjust to this relationship at her own pace.
After all, this wasn’t a quick fling. Amy was mine, now and for as long as she would have me. We had all of the time in the world.
CHAPTER 7 - AMY
THE REALITY OF my situation all came crashing down on my at once and I was immediately distracted from the arousal that thrummed through my entire body. I was kissing my boss in his office surrounded by all of our coworkers.
My heart started racing. Had anyone heard us? Would they know just by looking at me?
I straightened my dress and ran my fingers through my hair. As I walked through the hall and got into the elevator to head to the parking garage, I studiously avoided eye contact. I really, really, hoped that I didn’t look like I had just spent the last few earth shattering minutes kissing Keith.
I also managed to avoid seeing Kelly. I felt like I was on cloud nine, I didn’t need her undoubtedly searing words to bring me back down. This thing between myself and Keith my not be meant to last, but I was determined to make the most out of every second I got.
Never in my entire life had I felt a connection like the one we had. Every time we touched, every time our eyes met, it was like my whole body turned to liquid electricity. The wetness that had begun to build between my thighs was a constant reminder of the fiery connection, and that burning desire was what made me continue downwards to wait in front of Keith’s car.
The entire time, he wanted me, he wanted me, he wanted me, ran through my head like a mantra.
The thought of it still seemed inconceivable to me. He was everything any woman could want in a man, smart, respectful, mature, and not to mention drop dead gorgeous with his toned figure and high cheekbones. Keith could literally have any woman he wanted, and yet he chose me.
“Are you ready?” A deep voice said softly from behind me, and I jumped. I had been too lost in my thoughts to notice Keith comin
g up behind me.
“Let’s go.” I said, hoping that my voice didn’t betray just how much I wanted it, how much I wanted him.
Keith shot me one of his blinding smiles that instantly made me feel like I was the only girl in the world, and he opened the door for me.
The car was a sporty model that I didn’t recognize, with a full leather interior. I was almost afraid to touch it, it practically oozed money. It struck me again just how far out of my league Keith was.
As we drove, Keith rested one of his hands on my thigh, rubbing small circles that sent sparks racing up my spine. His hand crept higher and higher, and yet he kept on chatting away as if his touch wasn’t driving me absolutely crazy.
By the time we got to his apartment, my panties were absolutely soaked, and I couldn’t help but run my hand against the luxurious leather seat to make sure that no traces of my arousal had leaked out onto the seat.
I caught Keith watching me and I felt the flush that had begun to die down return in full force. My cheeks were surely a flaming red now, but Keith only smiled indulgently.
That little shit! He knew exactly what his touch was doing to me. The thought only served to turn me on even more.
It seemed to take hours to get up to Keith’s apartment even though it was probably more like minutes. Every time I thought that my arousal had dulled to a manageable level, Keith touched my arm or the small of my back and the heat pooling low in my belly came back in full force.
When the door opened, I couldn’t help the gasp I let out. This was no apartment, this was a full on penthouse.
Through the floor to ceiling windows at the other end of the room, I could see out over the rest of the city. For a moment I completely forgot why I was here.
